從世俗到淨土 -- 星雲大師《維摩經》詮釋理路探究=From the Profane to the Pure Land: An Investigation into Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s Interpretation of the Vimalakīrti Nirdeśa Sūtra
This paper discusses Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s interpretation of the Vimalakīrti Nirdeśa Sūtra. Venerable Master Hsing Yun approaches the Vimalakīrti Nirdeśa Sūtra from three perspectives: life, self and other, and the world. From the perspective of life, Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s interpretation is that the purification of secular life will bring about the purification of secular Buddhism. From the perspective of the self and other, Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s interpretation is that the individual who correctly understands the secular world will purify the secular world, and thereby create a pure land in the secular world. From the perspective of the world, Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s interpretation is that secular life is the location of the pure land: purify secular life with the Dharma, and thereby realize the goal of the pure land. Thus,Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s interpretation of the Vimalakīrti Nirdeśa Sūtra focuses on how common affairs are the basis of the pure land.
